Coachbuilders
Most car manufacturers started by supplying their vehicles as chassis for coachbuilders to cloth in different bodies. From the 1920s the mass production makers started to use standard bodywork and it was more economic to make this for themselves. More expensive cars continued with bespoke coachbuilt bodies until the late 1950s.
