The British Motor Industry originates with a friend of Gottlieb Daimler in London, and this Frederick Simms obtained a license for Daimler's engine in 1891. Simms' Daimler Motor Syndicate began making power boats, before importing a Daimler-engined Panhard et Levassor car in 1895.
