The most noticeable change affected the radiator grille. Up to October 1952 it was a one-piece heavyweight in chromed mazac. It then changed its appearance and consisted of two stainless steel parts. The basic layout was carried over to the Morris Oxford Series II.

By the late 1940's Morris desperately needed a modern, mid-sized, family saloon, in 1948 they launched the new Oxford MO. The Oxford featured an all new unit construction four door body, which had a similar appearance to the equally new Morris Minor MM. This new body shell was also used as the base for other "Nuffield" cars including the Morris Six, Wolseley 4/50 and 6/80.

During production the MO underwent a series of changes. The bonnet lost its deadly points, a less elegant but more flexible mounting for the rear numberplate was introduced, several types of rear lights appeared, separate sidelights found a place beneath the headlights, the rear window blind gave way to a new rear view mirror.

Designed by Alec Issigonis, the Oxford, with the Morris Minor, introduced unit construction techniques, though it is not widely recognized as a true unibody car. Torsion beam front suspension was another novelty, and 8 inch drum brakes hydraulically opearted were fitted all around.
