Morris Oxfords
In 1912 the first Morris Oxford appeared with its distinctive 'Bullnose' radiator. The Oxford was an assemblage of components from British companies, and in 1915 a cheaper Cowley was launched built with American components as these were cheaper. A White and Poppe 4-cylinder sidevalve engine of 1018cc powered the Oxford. From 1919, a new larger Oxford was available with 1548cc engine from the British Hotchkiss company, which became Morris Engines in 1923 after William Morris bought the company. The engine was enlarged to 1803cc in 1923. For 1926, Oxford and Cowleys gained new chassis, but the Cowley was only given rear wheel brakes. Gone was the 'Bullnose' radiator, now replaced by the cheaper and more efficient 'Flatnose' radiator. Another chassis change was made for 1932 and revised bodies, and from 1929-1933 an 'Oxford-Six' was offered with a 1936cc six cylinder engine. For 1934 and 1935 there were Oxford Sixteens and Twenties with larger 6-cylinder engines. In 1948 Alec Issigonis launched the Morris Oxford Series MO, and this was followed by the new Oxford Series II in 1954, Series III in 1956, and Series IV (Estate) in 1960. The final Morris Oxford was the Farina-designed car launched as the Oxford Series V in 1959, and the Series VI in 1961
