Jowett Flat Twin
Benjamin and William Jowett together with Arthur Lamb started making engines to power machinery, and also manufactured bicycles from 1901, and established the Jowett Motor Manufacturing Company in 1904. The first car in 1906, but production only commenced in 1910. Production was slow, but Jowett made their own engines and gearboxes unlike many other brands. Jowett Cars Ltd was formed and the first Jowett Seven introduced in 1920. This Seven had a flat twin engine of 831 cc and then 907cc in 1921 which was a development of the pre war 816cc engine. The Seven was improved from 1923 with coil ignition, and the engine changed to have removable cylinder heads from 1929. A long wheelbase 4-seater 'Long Four' was available from 1923, lengthened from 84 inches to 102 inches. In 1924 a compact 'Light Four' which offered a 4-seater 'Chummy' body on the short chassis.
