Jaguar C-type (XK120-C)
Sir William Lyons created the XK120-C (or 'C-type) as a race version of the Jaguar XK120. Using a 205bhp version of the Jaguar XK 3.4litre engine, which was fitted into a new space frame chassis with bodywork designed by Malcolm Sayer . Jaguar C-types won Le Mans in 1951 and 1953. The missing year was because Jaguar revised the body for extra speed on the Mulsanne Straight, but this caused overheating and the 1952 team cars retired. Just 53 C-types were built.

Jaguar C-type 1952. Stirling Moss asked Norman Dewis to fit disc brakes to this C-type (XKC 05), and Moss took this to Reims in June 1952 and won the race claiming the first victory for a disc-braked car. This car, with Moss and Dewis piloting it, took part in the 1952 Mille Miglia attaining astonishing speeds until the car shook itself apart on the poor roads.
