Hillman Avenger Tiger
In 1972 Chrysler launched the Hillman Avenger Tiger as publicity for the dull Hillman Avenger range. The 'Tiger' name was rekindled from Sunbeam's history. The bright yellow car featured a large spoiler and lots of stripes, but underneath was a capable 107bhp 1498cc engine and improved suspension and brakes. A run of 100 yellow Tigers were produced and quickly sold. In October 1972 a MKII Tiger was launched to capitalise on this success, gaining an extra colour (red) quad headlamps, but losing its bonnet bulge and its minilite wheels. A further 400 ran out the gate and Chrysler was able to homologate the car for racing and rallying. At the end of 1973 production ended, job done for the Hillman Avenger Tiger.
