Ford Consul (EOTA and 204E)
Ford adopted the name 'Consul' in 1951 for its 4-cylinder version of the big Z-cars. These cars replaced the lumbering Pilot and brought the big car experience down to many ordinary families. A second generation of Consuls appeared in 1956 with even bigger bodies, and then the 'Consul' name became a family. Even though the name 'Consul' had been deleted from the new 4-cylinder Zephyrs (launched as the 'Zephyr 4') in 1962, the name 'Consul' was used as a prefix on the 1961 Ford Consul Classic, and in 1962 on the Ford Consul Cortina, and in 1964 on the Ford Consul Corsair. Finally from 1972-75 a cut-price Ford Granada with 4-cylinder engines (later V6s were offered) was called the 'Ford Consul'.
