BSA Scout
From 1922 to 1926 BSA produced a small number of light cars of its own design utilising a V-twin engine derived from Hotchkiss design. From 1929 BSA produced a new light car as a front wheel drive three-wheeler with independent front suspension, and the vee-twin 1,021cc engine adapted for the front wheel drive configuration. In 1931 BSA attempted to sell a 4-wheel version of the three wheeler but sales were poor. A new 4-cylinder 1,075cc engine was developed for the three wheeler, possibly related to the 1,203cc Lanchester engine. This new engine enabled BSA to produce a new front wheel drive 4-cylinder car for 1936 as the BSA Scout. BSA marketed it as a sporting car with some success and the engine was soon enlarged. Production continued until 1939 during which time 3,000 Scouts were sold.
