Wolseley 12/48
Wolseley made a 12/6 version of the Wolseley Hornet with a 6-cylinder 1271cc overhead cam engine. In 1936 the 'Morrisification' of Wolseleys was well under way and the Wolseley overhead cam engines were swept away. The Wolseley 12/48 was launched (as a 'Series II' car), heavily based on the similar looking Morris 12/4. However the Wolseley 12/48 used an overhead valve version of the 1,548cc Morris engine. Whilst the body looked identical to the Morris 12/4 Series II it was in fact built separately at the Wolseley factory and there were differences. The 12/48 shared its 8ft 4inch wheelbase with the Wolseley 10/40 whilst the Wolseley 16 had a 9ft 9inch wheelbase. In 1937 the Series III models were launched, the 12/48 getting a shorter 8ft 2inch wheelbase and a new body that did not resemble the Series III Morrises. However, the 1938 Wolseley 14/60 Series III used the 12/48 body but on an 8ft 8inch wheelbase. The 12/48 re-started production in late 1945 until replaced by the Morris Minor and Oxford cars of 1948.
