Lotus MkVI (Six)
Colin Chapman's first production car was the MkVI (Six) which started as a spaceframe chassis made by Progress Chassis Company and a stressed aluminium body by Williams and Pritchard was mounted. The car first raced at Silverstone in July 1952 and soon attracted orders. There were two main versions, the 1,172cc Ford sidevalve and the 1,500cc Ford Consul version with reduced capacity engine for 1,500cc racing. Other engines and configurations were possible because owners bought the car as kits and assembled them to their own preference. 110 MkVI were sold and its part in the history of the Lotus Seven is self evident.
