Ford Popular
The first Ford Popular was launched in 1935 as a cut down version of the Ford model Y, selling as Britain's cheapest car at £100. In 1953 Ford turned the outgoing Ford Anglia E494A into a 'new' Ford Popular. The Popular 103E took everything possible out of the Anglia, including things like the second windscreen wiper and the heater, and then sold to people at a time when secondhand cars were in short supply. In 1959 the Ford Anglia 100E was phased out to be replaced by the all new Ford Anglia 105E, and Ford then rolled the old 100E Anglia out stripped down again and renamed the Ford Popular 100E until 1962. The final version of the Ford popular was available from 1975-78 as the Ford Escort popular and the Ford Escort Popular Plus.
