Ferrari 365 GT4 BB and 512 BB
The Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer was shown at the Turin Salon in 1971, its body designed under chief stylist Leonardo Fioravanti. In 1973 the Boxer was ready for production and launched at Paris as the Ferrari 365 GT4 BB, sharing its '365 GT4' name with the Daytona (1968-76). The Daytona and Boxer shared similar mechanics, although the engines were at different ends and in the case of the Boxer the angle of the V12 was flatter. Enzo Ferrari had been reluctant to make a large mid-engined car, and had played safe with the Daytona. The 'Berlinetta Boxer' name hints at the 'boxer V12' engine, although it is in fact a flat-12 rather than a true boxer. The 365 GT4 BB was superseded by the 4942cc 512 BB in 1976 (The last year of the Daytona), and by the fuel-injected 512i BB in 1981. 2400 Boxers were sold.
