Ferrari 212 and 225
The Ferrari 212 can trace its DNA back to the Ferari 166 and later 195. Power was given by a Gioacchino Colombo 2,563cc V12 engine, each cylinder having a displacement of 212cc, hence the name. The 1951 Brussels Motor Show saw the launch of the Ferrari 212. The 212 was sold in a short wheelbase (2,250mm) 'Export' model intended for competition, and 2,600mm for the 'Inter' model. Both models were campaigned on the tracks, and were give coachwork by a great many coachbuilders but the most prolific was Alfredo Vignale partnered by designer Giovanni Michelotti. The 212 was replaced in 1953 by the Ferrari 250 after 82 Inters and 28 Export were made.
For the 225 Ferrari upgraded the Colombo V12 engine to 2,715cc (giving 225cc per cylinder, hence the name). The engine was jointly developed by Colombo using Lampredi cam followers to develop 210bhp. The car itself was based on the 212 Export and proved victorious in many events. Later models were given 3-litre engines and then the competition cars were replaced by the 250 MM and 250 GT

AC Ace
AC Ace. The AC Ace body came via John Tojeiro who built a couple of racing chassis for MG mechanics and one of these was given a body by Gray and Rich Panelcraft of Hammersmith that was unashamedly a copy of a Ferrari Barchetta. The car passed into the hands of Cliff Davis who then commissioned a larger version, also with a Gray and Rich body, so that he could fit in the Bristol six cylinder engine. Charles Hurlock of AC was shown the car and a deal was done to productionise the body at AC with Alan Turner and Vin Davidson developing the car after the 1953 Motor Show. Turner altered the styling into the car we know now as the AC Ace and later Cobra.
