Daimler Sovereign (XJ) 1973-79
In 1973 Jaguar announced the Series II versions of the XJ cars with higher front bumpers and squatter grilles; the long wheelbase was default. Daimler continued with its 'Sovereign' model based on the XJ6 4.2, but from 1975 this was also available with the 3.4-litre engine. A V12 Daimler was badged as the 'Double-Six' and from the outset a Vanden Plas version was also offered, and then in 1975 a Daimler 4.2 Vanden Plas was announced. In 1979 the Series III car was launched with completely revised body by Pininfarina and this continued until 1992.
