Bentley 3-litre
WO Bentley developed the 3-litre Bentley in 1919 and produced it from 1921 to 1929 (1622). The 108-inch chassis was derived from a Humber chassis by Fred Burgess who had worked with WO Bentley at Humber during the Great War. The 3-litre sohc 4-valve 4-cylinder engine was plagiarised from a 1914 Mercedes Racing car which had been interred in London during the War. Blue Label Bentleys were the standard model built on a 117.5-inch wheelbase or 130-inch for the long wheelbase and given 70bhp. The Red Label ('Speed Model') Bentley was only built on the 117.5-inch chassis with the engine tuned to 80bhp. The Green Label ('Super Sports') Bentley was an 85bhp 100mph car of which only 15 were built. Bentley 3-litres won the Le Mans 24 hours race in 1924 and 1927.
