Vanden Plas Cars
In 1946 Vanden Plas fell under the ownership of Austin Motors and chairman Leonard Lord saw the possibility to take the Austin badge into Bentley territory. The Austin Sheerline was already in design in 1942 with Leonard Lord trying to capture the look and feel of his personal Bentley. The 'Vanden-Plas' badge took over from Austin on the Sheerline successors, and then was given to luxury versions of Austin Westminsters. This badge-engineering took off, resulting in a Vanden-Plas 1100 and later Metro and Allegro. Perhaps more appropriately 'Vanden-Plas' appeared on Rover and Jaguar-Daimler cars
