Porsche 912
Introduced in 1965 to undercut the 911 and to take up the market held by the just discontinued 356, the 4cylinder 1582cc 912 actually outsold its 1991cc sibling. This cheaper 4-cylinder Porsche secured the brand in the market place and sold 30,000 units in 5years. The 912 could be ordered as a coupe or as a Targa. Porsche 912s were sold from 1965-69, mostly using the original short wheelbase 911 body until the last year of production when the LWB flaired arch body was used. In 1976 a limited run of about 2000 912E cars were sold using a 2-litre fuel-injected engine from the outgoing Porsche 914.
