Morris Ital
The biggest change for the Morris Marina came with the arrival of the Morris Ital in 1980, designed not by Giorgetto Giugiaro as many thought, but by Harris Mann with engineering help from ItalDesign. The O-series 1.7-litre engine continued in the top line models, whilst the cheaper models acquired the 1.3 A-plus engine from the Austin Metro. The Austin Montego took over from the Morris Ital in 1984.

Morris Ital 1983 1.3 HL - badge in grille. This was the Leyland Corporate badge, each blue 'slash' indicating a brand within BLMC, but by 1983 few brands were left, and when the Ital was culled in 1983 the brand 'Morris' was lost forever.

Morris Ital 1981 1.3 HL. Biggest change for the Ital was that new panel work was given to the front of the car, with new modern lamp units and a sloping grille. Inside the bonnet the old 1298cc A-series engine was replaced by the 1.3 A-plus engine, and the 1798cc B-series engine was retired in favour of a 1.7 O-series unit.

Morris Ital 1981 1.3 HL. The Morris Marina was replaced by the Morris Ital in 1980 as a way of rekindling the model line until the Austin Montego was ready.
Morris Ital 1983 13 HL front
Morris Ital 1983 1.3 HL. Designer Harris Mann completed the facelift of the Marina into the Morris Ital. The 1.3 model carried the same A-Plus engine given to the Austin Metro, whilst 1.7 models got the O-series engine.

Morris Ital 1983 1.3 HL. Leyland only had a modest budget to revamp the Morris Marina and create the Morris Ital. Ital Design were engaged to help out with the production aspects of the car, but the design itself was done by their own Harris Mann

Morris Ital 1983 1.7 Estate. The estate car continued, only updated at the front for the Ital makeover.

Morris Ital 1983 1.7 Estate. The project to transform the Morris Marina into the Ital only had a small budget, and the estate car was largely unchanged aft of the bonnet
