Lotus Elan Plus 2 (Type 50)
In September 1967 the Elan Plus 2 (Type 50) was launched. Although attempts had been made simply to lengthen the Elan, the Elan Plus 2 was actually ten inches wider and 12 inches longer. A pair of small seats were incorporated in the cabin but really were only suitable for small children. Ron Hickman executed the design of the Elan Plus 2, but by its launch in 1967 he had already retired from car design projects. In March 1969 a more powerful 'Plus 2S' was announced, and in February 1971 the 'Plus 2S/130' with 126bhp engine. The final development was the 'Plus 2 130/5' with the 5-speed gearbox from October 1972. Production ended in December 1974 after around 4600 Elan Plus 2 had been sold.
