Invicta A-type, S-type
Invicta launched their 4½-litre car in 1928 with a Meadows 'Type 6' engine that was also used by Lagonda and may have been used in boats and other applications. The A-type was a fairly standard looking car of 'upright' proportions, and a car that aimed to satisfy Noel Macklin's quest for power, flexibility and comfort. The S-type was the same mechanics in an underslung chassis that gave a much lower more sporting car, and was often given light aluminium coachwork and used in competition. Invicta cars ceased production around 1935 and Noel Macklin started up Railton from the Chobham works.
In 1931 driving an Invicta 4½-litre Donald Healey won the Monte Carlo Rally
