Ford Custom
Ford first used the 'Custom' badge to distinguish its highest trim level in the 1949 model year. For 1950 Ford sold the 'Custom Deluxe' and then for 1952 The 'Customline' sold higher than the 'Mainline' and lower than the 'Crestline'. 'Custom' and 'Custom 300' sold for 1957 as the entry level Fords below Fairlane and Fairlane 500, but were dropped for 1960. 'Custom' and 'Custom 500' models reappeared for 1964, usually sold as Taxis or Police cars with low trim levels and plain styling. Six cylinder engines were usually specified, but all the larger V8s could be optioned, sometimes to produce a very light but powerful car. The very basic Ford Custom was finally dropped after 1972 although the Custom 500 continued until 1979 (1981 in Canada).
