Dodge Dart 1967-71
Chrysler revised it A-body cars for 1967 and both the Plymouth Valiant and the Dodge Dart got the new styling on the 111-inch wheelbase. Underneath the new pressings, however, lay the structure that formed the 1963 Virgil Exner design) The Dart lost its Station Wagons and had to make do with 2 and 4-door sedans, coupe and convertible. Power was given by the 2,786cc and 3,687cc inline sixes or optionally by the 4,474cc (273) V8. Hotter versions were to come with a tuned 273 giving 50bhp more, and also the 5,211cc (318) V8. The most powerful engines were the 318s (6,276cc) in 270bhp or 325bhp versions. The Dart GTS was introduced for 1968 with 'Bumble Bee' stripes and could be sold to you with hot 383 power. Even larger engines could be fitted by specialists. For 1969 a 5,563cc (340) Dart Swinger 340 was offered but had less power than the Dart GTS. Styling tweaks were given to the 1970 Dart, and in 1971 Chrysler added a new Dodge Demon on a 108-inch wheelbase with a lowly six cylinder engine or in Demon 340 guise powered by a 275bhp 340 V8; The 'Demon Sizzler' added a styling package to the Demon 340 spec.
