Dodge Dart 1960-76
Launched in 1960, the Dodge Dart was designed to be the cheapest car in Plymouth showrooms and was based on a 118-inch Plymouth platform. Sedans, Coupes and Station Wagons were all unibody construction, and engines ranged from a 3.7-litre slant six up to 6.3-litre V8s. Styling was changed for 1961 bringing it closer to that of the Polara. A new shorter model second generation Dart was launched for 1962, controversially 7-inches shorter B-body shared with Plymouth. This was a response to rumours of smaller cars coming from GM (they didn't!). For 1963 the B-body Dodge continued frowing 6-inches and a further inch in 1964 but no longer badged as 'Dart'. Chrysler introduced a new Dodge Dart in 1963, actually a reworked Lancer taking over from the Lancer and it shared the 111-inch wheelbase A-body of the Plymouth Valiant. Chrysler revised it A-body cars for 1967 and both the Plymouth Valiant and the Dodge Dart got the new styling on the 111-inch wheelbase. Underneath the new pressings, however, lay the structure that formed the 1963 design.
