De Tomaso Mangusta
Using a Vallelunga chassis, the Mangusta was exhbited in 1966 and went into production in 1967. Bodywork was by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Ghia, and in 1967 Alejandro De Tomaso bought part of the Ghia company. 'Mangusta' is the Italian name for Mongoose which is the only animal feared by a Cobra snake. It is believed that De Tomaso saw his car as a Shelby Cobra killer after a disagreement between Shelby and De Tomaso. Power came from a Ford 4728 cc V8 (or 4949cc)
