Mayfair Carriage Company
The Mayfair Carriage Company build bodies on some of the finest thoroughbred cars of the 1930s, often as one-offs or in small numbers. The partners of a company (possibly called 'Motor Car Industries') split up in 1925, and one of the partners formed 'Progressive Coach & Motor Body Company in Kilburn, London in 1925. They exhibited at the 1927 Olympia Motor Show in 1927 and then in 1929 changed their name to 'Mayfair Carriage Company Ltd'. By 1934 their business had grown and they moved to the Edgeware Road. By this time they had established themselves with Buick and Minerva, but were also building for Humber, Wolseley, Alvis, as well as bodies on Rolls-Royce, Bentley and even a Mercedes-Benz SSK. After the Second World War the company built a few bodies on commercial vehicles, but the rise of 'standard steel bodies' on most cars saw them switch to repairs and servicing.
