Alpine Renault 5
The Renault 5 Alpine was launched at the Geneva Salon 1976 and was a reworked Renault 5 by Alpine's own Yves Legal and Dominique Guérin. The 1,397cc Cleon-Fonte was given a performance head and pistons, and bolted to the 5-speed gearbox from the Renault 16TX. Underneath suspension and braking was modified, and a front air dam added. The Renault 5 Alpine Turbo is announced in 1981 with a Garrett turbocharger. 54,000 Renault 5 Alpines are sold plus a further 26,000 Turbo versions. The car is badged 'Renault 5 Gordini' in the UK because of the Simca/Chrysler Alpine car.
