Toros
In 1969 Renault formed a joint venture with the Turkish Pension Fund Oyak and the first result of that was the Turkish version of the Renault 12 in 1971. The Turkish Renault 12 was a good seller and in 1982 it was facelifted, and a further restyle in 1989 found the car being named as the Renault Toros; 'Toros' refers to the Taurus mountains. Unlike the Dacia 1300 version of the Renault 12, the Turkish Toros remained closer to the French product since the company was 51 per cent owned by Renault, and the 1989 restyle was done by Renault. Production ended in 2000 because the 1.4-litre engine could no longer meet emmissions regulations; 700,000 were built in Turkey
