Following the launch of the the SS1 in 1932, 'Swallow Sidecars' became 'SS Cars Ltd' in 1934. The first sportscar of SS Cars was the SS90, still based on the Standard Twenty, but it wasn't very sporting. In 1936 William Heynes and Harry Weslake developed the 2663cc 6-cylinder Standard engine with overhead valve head to give 90bhp and launched this in the new
