Reliant Kitten and Fox
Ogle Design produced the Reliant Kitten and exhibited it the 1975 Earls Court Motor Show. Essentially the Kitten was a 4-wheel Robin, using the same chassis and 848cc engine of the 3-wheeler. At the front the Kitten had new wishbone suspension and rack and pinion steering, whilst at the back the same Robin back axle was retained. A van version appeared in 1976. Sales were slow as the Kitten was expensive to make and because it had 4 wheels it did not benefit from lower taxation or easier licensing. 4,000 Kittens were sold before Reliant stopped production in 1982. The Greek company MEBEA had been producing Reliant Kitten 4-wheel cars in Greece from 1975 and they decided to take this recipe and make a utility vehicle. However, MEBEA needed help to develop the project and get type approval and turned to Reliant for help. The MEBEA Fox sold around 3000 between 1979 and 1983 until Greek laws changed and it no longer appealed to buyers in Greece. So Reliant took it back and sold around 600 Reliant Foxes from 1983 to 1990.
Reliant Kitten front
Reliant Kitten Estate. A four wheel Robin, also designed by Ogle Design. Rack and pinion steering steering and wishbone suspension gave the Kitten advantages over it's 3-wheeled sibling the Robin. However the Robin was a better buy because there were tax and licensing advantages for 3-wheels and not for 4-wheels.
Reliant Fox front
Reliant Fox. The Fox was developed in Greece as a 4-wheel pickup or utility based on Reliant Kitten mechanics. MEDEA sold it Greece until 1983 and the Reliant produced it in the UK.
s_Reliant Fox side
Reliant Fox. Created by MEBEA in Greece and developed for them by Reliant, the Fox was later sold by Reliant in the UK after Grrek production stopped.
