The first major revision to the Austin/Morris J4 Van came in 1974 when the underfloor engine was replaced by a conventional front-mounted engine and the J4 was given a new bonnet front and marketed as the 'Leyland Sherpa'. The Leyland and then Morris Sherpa were revised with a new horizontal grille similar to the Range Rover in 1982 and sold as the Freight-Rover Sherpa. From 1984-89 a square-lighted Sherpa was marketed as the Freight Rover 200, alongside a new wider-bodied version named 'Freight Rover 300'.
