Jaguar 240, 340.
There was no 'Jaguar Mark One', although that name has now been given to the Jaguar 2.4 and 3.4 built from 1957-59. The 'Mark 2' replaced those cars, taking the same sporting saloon formula and improving it. The Mk2 was available with three versions of the XK six cylinder engine; 2483cc, 3442cc, and 3781cc. The biggest engine was shared with the E-type Jaguar (and both the MkIX and MkX cars), but was less tuned in the Mk2 cars. Jaguar's takeover of Daimler in 1960 gave them the idea of creating a Daimler model out of the Mk2 using Daimler's small V8 engine to create the Daimler 2½litre in 1962. In 1963 a new version of the Mk2 was announced as a sportier and more expensive car; The Jaguar S-type 3.4 or 3.8. However, sales of the Mk2 slowed and the S-type was never taken up in big numbers, so the Mk2 was revised and cheapened to be relaunched in 1967 as the 240 and 340. The S-type had already been upgraded as the Jaguar 420 in 1966. In 1968 All these cars were swept away by the new Jaguar XJ6 range.
