Ford Thames 400E Pickups, Vans and other Goods Vehicles By 1957 the sidevalve-engined Ford E83W was looking very long in its Pre-war tooth, especially compared to modern forward control vans like the Bedford CA and the Morris J2. So in 1957 the 400e was launched with compact monocoque chassis and a new 4-cylinder engine from the Ford Consul.
There were two versions, the 10/12cwt and the 15cwt, the payload appearing beneath the 'THAMES' badge above the grille. In 1965 the 'Thames' name gave way to the 'Ford' badge, but within 6months the 400E gave way to the new Ford Transit |
