Ferrari Mondial 8, QV, 3.2 and t
Ferrari replaced its unloved Bertone-designed Dino 308 GT4 with the Mondial 8 and it was first exhibited at the Geneva Salon in 1980. Underneath was an extended 308 chassis and the same 2926cc V8 used in the 308, and the car was designed under Leonardo Fiorovanti. The heavier car was not sprightly, and in 1982 the Mondial 8 gave way to the Mondial Quattrovalvole with 4-valve cylinder head, and in 1985 the 3185cc Mondial 3.2 took over with mild re-styling. In 1989 the Mondial t was launched with revised styling, but more importantly a t-shaped power unit, having longitudinal engine with transverse gearbox; this format would be used on subsequent Ferraris, including the 348 which also shared this new 3405cc unit. Mondials had a 2-door 2+2 body, but a cabriolet body was available from 1983.

Ferrari Mondial 8 front
Ferrari Mondial 8. Designed by Pininfarina to replace Bertone's unloved 308 GT4, and built using engine and chassis derived from that car. It was a four seater car and ran alongside the Pininfarina designed 308 GTB/GTS 2seat car.

Ferrari Mondial 8 rear
Ferrari Mondial 8. Powered by a reliable but hardly exciting 214bhp 2927cc engine (as for the 308 GTB/GTS), 6800 were made and the Mondial is considered as one of the most reliable and practical Ferraris. Later versions had 3.2 and 4valve engines

Ferrari Mondial quattrovalvole. To answer criticisms that the Mondial 8 was under-powered, the 4-valve QV model was launched with more power in 1982.
