Enzo Ferrari formed Scuderia Ferrari ('Team Ferrari') to race cars, usually Alfas, and he was very succesful. In 1938 Alfa Romeo hired Enzo to head up their competition department. The Second World War all but dissolved this Alfa

Ferrari 246 F1. The 246 F1 had a front-mounted 2417cc Dino V6 engine (later to be developed into a road engine). In 1960 a modified version of the Dino engine was mid-mounted into the 246P GP car.

Ferrari 500-625 front
Ferrari 500/625. In 1952 the Formula One Championship dropped down to using 2-litre Formula Two cars after the withdraawal of the Alfa team. The new Ferrari 500 withits purpose-built 1,985cc 4-cylinder engine proved unstoppable as almost every other team had not developed cars ready for the formula. For the 1954 season the GP rules permitted 2.5litre engines and the revised Ferrari 500/625 with 2.5litre engine could not catch the Maserati 250F.
