Chevrolet Impala 1965-70
General Motors had brought Chevrolet a brand new B-body for the 1965 models, shared with siblings at Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac. The Impala was built on a 119-inch wheelbase whilst its siblings went up to 123-inches. Styling was a curvy 'coke bottle' shape with rising waist line, and the Sport Coupe was almost a fastback. A new 'Caprice' trim option was launched and eventually the Chevrolet Caprice became a model in its own right. There was a restyle in 1967 which gave the Impala even more curves and created a fastback of the Sport Coupe. In 1968 the Super Sport package had simply become a cheap styling option and more serious performance was being offered by Chevelle and Novas, although the SS427 continued into 1969. A new generation of Impalas was launched in 1970 for the 1971 season.
