Austin A40, A50 and A55 Cambridges
Go to Austin Cars he BMC Cambridges by Burzi and before Farina

An album of the Austin A40 Cambridge, A50 Cambridge and the A55 Cambridge that replaced the Austin Ten Cambridge.
Austin A40 Cambridge. Replacing the A40 Somerset, the A40 Cambridge launched in 1954 was the same as the A50 Cambridge except for the old 1200cc engine and less equipment.
Austin A40 Cambridge. When launched in 1954 there was also a 2door A40 but few were made, and the A40 did not sell. Production ended in 1956 after only 30,000 were sold
Austin A40 Cambridge. The A40 Cambridge had a smaller 1,200cc version of the new BMC B-series engine. The monocoque bodyshell was sparsely trimmed in the A40, lacking even winders for the windows. This view shows the -cow hip- boot and high lid.
Austin A50 Cambridge. Like the A40 Cambridge, and the later A55, these were styled by Austin's own Dick Burzi.
Austin A50 Cambridge used the 1489 cc B-Series engine 115,000 were sold. A50 and A40, as well as the 6-cylinder A90/A105 all featured this 'cow hips' boot which evolved into a bigger winged boot for the next models.
Austin A55 Cambridge, mechanically the same as the 51bhp A50 Cambridge, the A55 used a longer boot version of the A50 bodyshell with wraparound rear window and revised wheelbase.
Austin A55 Cambridge replaced the A50 model in 1957. The 1498cc B-series engine was revised , and the 1200cc A40 dropped. The wheelbase was slightly increased for better handling.
Austin A55 Cambridge. Given a longer boot and larger rear window, the A55 was otherwise the same as the outgoing A50 Cambridge.

Austin A50 Cambridge. Dick Burzi's 'cow-hips' shape for the A40/A50 Cambridge, as well as the A90/A105 Westminster is clear in this picture.
