Vanden Plas 1500 and 1750
When the Austin Allegro was launched in 1974 a Vanden Plas version (the 1500) was also produced and sold until 1980. Roland Fox, Managing Director of Vanden-Plas, styled the front of the 1500, insisting that the peaked bonnet was what customers expected. The Vanden-Plas 1500 (and later 1750) were manufactured in Longbridge and then sent to the Vanden-Plas works at Kingsbury for trimming. At the end of production cars were given the 1748cc E-series engine from the Austin Maxi and marketed as 'Vanden-Plas 1750'.
